A Grateful Dead Tribute serving MD, DC, VA, WV and Furthur since 2002... Come join the party
Phil’s love of improvisational music began when he was growing up in New York in the 1970s, listening to the Grateful Dead and bluegrass music. When he moved to the DC area in the 1980s, Phil expanded his musical knowledge, studying with jazz guitar great Paul Bollenback and performing in a number of jazz projects, playing originals and covers. Phil has always remained steeped in the Grateful Dead and bluegrass scenes, attending dozens of concerts and music festivals over the years, and playing with other musicians at every opportunity.
Phil’s greatest joy is creating music on the fly, having an improvisational musical conversation with like-minded musicians. For him, playing Grateful Dead music is the ultimate in this in-the-moment experience. Phil has enjoyed performing this great music with a number of area bands, including Fatwood, Tumbledown Shack, and On the Bus.
Phil’s goal is to accurately recreate the music and spirit of the Grateful Dead. He’s a stickler for details and enjoys the full range of the Dead’s extensive repertoire, especially their more harmonically and rhythmically complex pieces.
Just as symphony orchestras pay tribute to classical composers, Grateful Dead tribute bands around the globe help keep the spirit, vibe and community of the Dead alive and thriving... On the Bus has been paying tribute to the Dead since 2002 playing festivals, clubs, parties, benefits and weddings in DC, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Furthur! ~ On the Bus ~ Grateful Dead done right!
